Bloom vs Loop Habit Tracker: two genuinely free habit trackers
Loop is open-source, free, and has no paid tier of any kind. It is the honest answer to “what should I use if I refuse to pay” on Android. Bloom makes the same promise on both platforms, and makes a very different design choice about what a tracker should show you.
Where Loop Habit Tracker is the better choice
Loop is open-source, which Bloom is not. If you want to read the code that holds your data, that settles it. Loop’s habit strength score is also more thoughtful than a raw streak: it weights recent consistency and decays gradually, so one missed day does not look like failure. Its widgets are mature and it has never had anything to sell you. If you are on Android and want a quiet, data-first tracker with no company behind it, Loop is a genuinely good answer.
Where Bloom differs
- Loop is Android-only. Bloom runs on iOS as well, which matters if you switch phones or share a system with someone on the other platform.
- Loop shows your history as charts and scores. Bloom shows it as a plant that grows through seven stages. Neither is better; they suit different people.
- Bloom’s garden changes with the time of day, which Loop does not attempt. That is decoration, and worth nothing if decoration is not what you want.
- Both store data on the device and neither requires an account. Bloom sends anonymous usage analytics that you can switch off; Loop sends none at all.
Which should you pick?
If you are on Android and want open source with no company attached, use Loop. Choose Bloom if you want the same no-paid-tier promise on iPhone too, or if seeing something grow motivates you more than seeing a chart.
